Boston University Korean Entrepreneurship Club
What is BUKE
BUKE is an acronym for the Boston University Korean Entrepreneurship club, where the common belief and end goal is shared economy. BUKE’s president Ji Sang Park received an opportunity to interview a program developer of a large company, and an idea that was discussed in depth was bringing change to the current rental system. With that general idea in mind, BUKE worked to design a new rental storage company called DoorBear where users are able to rent out their desired storage space whilst also renting their belongings. Users will be enticed to use this company due to the low prices and the quality assurance of the proper handling of personal belongings compared to other companies. Profit will be evident through the cost of rental in addition to fees incurred for each rental transaction. This company would be able to productively compete with other reputable companies, therefore enabling it to possess a higher market standing while maintaining a low operational cost and high profit margin.
My Work in BUKE
Luckily, since my brother Jewoo Lee was given the role as the head of the BUKE engineering team, I was easily able to obtain an opportunity to cooperate with the team and assist them with developing a website platform where DoorBear would operate. There was virtually no comparable platforms that we could learn from, so we had to start from scratch. Jewoo and I began the process by gathering all the information that was necessary to construct servers, process data, and create an analyzing system. Afterwards, in order to pool in a more accurate and large set of data, we requested the business team to create surveys and send us the corresponding responses. Based on survey analysis, we began to construct our website.
What I’ve Learned
The opportunity to be able to collaborate and work on a project from scratch opened my eyes to the world of entrepreneurship in the realm of business. It provided me with experiences with higher-level co-workers and made me realize how much more there is behind starting and running a company. Although this is an experience from a college club, I hope to apply what I have learned in order to gain more experience in real-life running corporations further down my career.
